In this picture you see a newspaper clipping of Rhein-Main's only (known) murder case. A TSgt (former C-130 flight engineer) was suspected of murdering his Phillipino girlfriend on Rhein-Main Air Base, then desecrating her corps by hacking off her head and hands. Shortly thereafter, the victim's torso was found burning in the woods near Kronau in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. An SPOI investigator, whom you can see in this picture switching from his POV to a GOV, was tasked by the SJA to conduct a nine-month independent investigation into this bizarre mutilation-murder case. This case lead to the first ever USAF muder-conviction based on DNA evidence in 1991. Due to it's complexity, this case is still being taught at the Hessen State Police Academy i.e., Jurisdictions: non-German victim and suspect, Territories involved: two German states and US government, Crime scene versus where the victim was found, numerous different prosecutors and police agencies involved, etc. The head and hands of the victim remain missing.

This photo shows where investigators at one of the crime scenes found and retrieved some of the victim's bone fragments.

In 1992 Russia suffered from a severe food shortage and needed outside help. Once again Rhein-Main became the hub for an international airlift that helped our former foes to survive!

These Russian soldiers initially refused to allow our alert photo guys to document the mission until higher-ups intervened. Never bite the hand that feeds you!

And yet another relief flight headed to Russia

In 1992-93 tensions rose in former Yugoslavia and again aircraft from Rhein-Main airdropped and flew in supplies to help the suffering people. Flights in and out of Sarajevo had been shot at numerous times and SPOI stayed busy investigating cases of "Damage to government property/aircraft shot". Interesting days.

Photos taken while Serbian snipers kept firing at the French Foreign Legionnaires 2nd Parachute Regiment. They were protecting the airport at the time and of course our aircraft.

I think the short guy in "blues" is SSgt Gass.
