This was the warning sign painted on Rhein-Main's old flight line in front of the the tower. Let me take you back in time on a tour inside the tower before this historic landmark was torn down. The tower was the former symbol of freedom for so many who made flight to safety from captivity and war during the past six decades.
I'm not sure but this could have been the old CSC until they moved out of the tower. Our Security folks would recognize it!
An Airbus in final approach.
What a mess!
The abandoned flight line
Now ALL of Rhein-Main's buildings have been torn down.
Looking southeast over the former Fire Department.
Looking due south: The old brick Zeppelin-era building which used to be the oldest building around the airport. I think it used to be our designated Bldg. 43 ("Special Ops. Squadron")… also flattened of course.
Eerie!
Looking southwest you can see the former 21st Replacement Battalion. Building in the middle of the picture and the southern tip of Bldg. 400, the MAC - or later AMC Terminal. I still remember it's Grand Opening circa 1987/88.
More of JW's photos to come. Next will be the Feldberg site.
