I was a Flight Chief on both nights and days. I was the on duty Flight Chief the day of the '85 bombing... a day I will never forget. The Rhein was my second duty station. My first was Ellsworth AFB, SD and my final duty station was Plattsburgh AFB, NY. I got out in '89 after 10 years. After a few jobs while living in Ohio and waiting to get hired with the Lucas County Sheriff's Dept, I moved back to Hershey, PA. I ended up working 14 years for Hershey Chocolate. My first position was Security Supervisor. I did that for 2 years. The next 12 years I served as Manufacturing Supervisor. I Never thought I would be making chocolate. During those years I worked part time for the Dauphin County Sheriff's Dept often detached to the County Fugitive Warrant Joint Task Force. Good times! I now live in the Seattle,WA area and work as a Manufacturing Operations Manager for Starbucks Coffee. We love it out here but I miss police work every day.

The Rhein was by far my favorite duty station. I made life-long friends and lived through some exciting times. I played on the base football team, the squadron softball team, and ran on the base track team. I worked with a great group of men and women and we always made it fun. I was sad to see pictures on Face Book (Gateway to Europe) site that shows many photos of what Rhein-Main looks now. Please stop by my facebook site "435th SPS (USAF Security Police, Rhein-Main Germany)" if you're on Face Book. I'd love to see you guys on there. Great site Chuck. Thanks for doing this.
