There were two Law Enforcement
Specialist Owens with the same first name (spelled differently)
whose tours overlapped. I arrived at Rhein-Main AB just before
the first one "The Big O" left in 1989. but I don't
know when he first got to Rhein-Main AB. By the way, I do remember
you Chuck - the time we were stationed there together. You were
at the end of your tour and I was at the beginning of my tour.
I arrived at Rhein-Main AB in April of 1989 and was assigned to
"C Flight". All I remember of my afternoons & nights
with SPOL-C is TSgt Gallegos and a party he had at his apartment
complex off base. Shortly thereafter, I was assigned to "A
Flight " and spent the rest of the time with the likes of
MSgt Branch, MSgt Swift, SSgt Deeds, Sgt Petty, Sgt Murphy and
Amn Colvin. And who can forget Sgt Steven Sinatra? Sad to say,
I remember the death's of Lt. Hogan, A1C Lambeth and SrA Dolzl.
The way their lives ended has had a huge impact on my life and
they will never be forgotten. I remember most of the names listed
on our homepage. Even our German comrades working as patrolman,
investigators and interpreters.
While stationed at "The Rhein" I thought the place was
"hell on earth". But with age comes wisdom & many
years later I realize not only how much the place impacted my
life but also how much I really did enjoy the times and people
stationed there. I would have to say the connection (of time and
place) of the "Rhein-Main" guys & gals rivals those
of the "band of brothers". The memories I have are vivid
as yesterday. The stories I could tell... But that will have to
wait for another time.
I arrived at Rhein-Main in April 1989 married with our one year
old daughter, Amanda-Kaye, who is now twenty. We left the Gateway
To Europe in April 1992 with Amanda-Kaye and a son, Erick Jr.,
born in Germany. We PCS'd to Columbus AFB, Mississippi. While
there, my beautiful wife and I again added to our happy family
- a son, Evan, born in April 1993. I was stationed at Columbus
AFB until November 1995. For a SrA, I was very successful. I owe
it to the training and experiences gained at "The Rhein".
While at Columbus, I served as the Resource Protection Manager,
Crime Prevention Manager, "DARE" Officer, etc. Speaking
of Amn Colvin, who I mentioned above from "A Flight"
at The Rhein, he ended up being stationed at Columbus AFB as well.
Sad to hear he has passed away.
I left the Air Force in November of 1995 as a Senior Airman. I
returned home to Monroe, Michigan and was hired by a contract
security company in January of 1996. My duties included providing
security at Enrico Fermi Nuclear Power plant (Fermi 2) in Newport,
Michigan. In June of 1997, we welcomed our fourth and last child
into our family - a daughter, Anna-Allysse. I was hired by DTE
Energy, (owner of Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant) as the Response
Force Supervisor of their Tactical Defense Team in 2000 and have
remained employed at "Fermi".

My health has not been good since 2003. Lets see... I had Colon
Cancer (Stage 3) surgery in May of 2003 and ended the year (October
2003), with major neck surgery because I had lost the use of my
left arm. Now I have more metal than bone in my neck. Oh, the
neck surgery in 2003 was a success, I did regain the use of my
left arm and maintained my status as a Response Force Supervisor
in Nuclear Security. However, I think my days (as of November
2008) as a Response Force Supervisor are now coming to an end.
I have developed Bilateral Leg Lymph Edema due the lymph nodes
that were removed during the cancer surgery five years ago. Throw
in re-occurring Blood Clots (genetic disorder - MTHFR) in my legs
that started in 2007, all the health issues are making me become
slowly disabled. On the lighter side, I keep looking to see If
I broke a mirror in 2003? If so, I will be in better health after
2010.
