I have to say it was really cool
stumbling across this website. I’ve been trying for several
years to find people from my very memorable time at the Rhein. I
was sitting with my dying father at a hospice facility in November
2005 when I read online that the base had closed. I felt immediately
sick and will admit to a tear or two. My dad, only a few days from
his own demise, looked over at me and saw that I was having trouble
containing my emotions and said, “Boy, I’m not going
to die right now so there is no point in being upset just yet.”
I replied, “Dad, I hate to burst your bubble, but I’m
not upset about that. I just read they closed Rhein Main.”
(I’m still a dick)
I was only there for about 3 years (from 86 to 88) of my 43 years
on this planet, but that was the sum total of my military experience,
and that place and you people had a great impact on my life. I have
so many good memories of that time.
I processed out from RMAB and returned to the civilian world. I
went to work in the comedy club business and a host of other jobs
and bounced around the country for a couple of years – 9 kids,
1 grandchild, 15 business ventures, and 3 wives later I am back
in Indiana where I grew up, and where I spend a bulk of my time
raising my kids and running a non-profit youth baseball organization.
Because my expansive tribe also needs to eat, I operate several
different companies that offer a variety of services and products
to healthcare, education, government, and private businesses in
the US and Asia. Feel free to contact me at at mwsanders
