I was stationed at Rhein-Main AB from Sept 84 - Sep 88. I found out I made E-5 in Nov 84 and sewed it on 01 Jan 85. I was on D Flight for several months. I got hired to work as the NCOIC of Security Operations in March 1985. SMSgt Schmidt was my boss. Capt Armstrong was the Ops Officer. SrA Robby May was hired later to work as the Nuclear Surety Officer (for briefing). SSgt Dave Ward was the NCOIC for the Off-Base Comm Centers. I occasionally worked a shift for a flight line patrol (giving a person the day/night off) and got feedback to what the flight wanted (as far as supplies, SSI,s, etc). I handled the rewrite of all SSI’s and arranged all TDY's that went out. I went to Pisa, Italy, with eight Airmen for a month (Jan 1987) and sent several groups TDY to Africa, Afghanistan, Spain, Italy, and elsewhere. I lived in Langen Base housing and finished my tour there in Sept 1988 (PCSing to Nellis AFB, Nevada). When I left Rhein-Main, TSgt Reggie Button replaced me in the office. SSgt Dave Smith replaced Robbie.

I got out in 1992 after 14 years due to the elder President Bush's reduction in force (RIF) letter. I took the VSI option and found out I had a line number for TSgt in 1993. I started work at the Phoenix, Oregon Police Department in May 1994 and have been here ever since. Funny how time flies. I now have 14 years here as well. I work as the Records Clerk/Evidence Officer with other side jobs as Fingerprint Technician/Examiner, Law Enforcement Data Systems Representative for the City, Community Watch Administrator, and more.

I regret not retiring from the service. I would have stayed in had it not been for the RIF. I am currently a disabled veteran with 60% disability rating. I've had several surgeries to my knees due to service related “driving” conditions (yes I am still 6’ 7”). I miss the cook-outs on base with the bratwursts and schweinbraten. I miss the effectiveness of our squadron I tried to keep in touch with Rob May, but somehow lost his information about two years ago. He lives in NC. I was one of the first people informed of Danny’s death stateside (that was a tragic, stupid, mistake by their squadron!). I was at Rhein-Main during the 1985 car bombing by RAF, and left just after the jets collided at Ramstein AB Air show.

The attached picture is of our Department. I'm the tall, handsome one on the left end (ha ha). Take care and God Bless everyone.
